Rutilated quartz features slender needle like inclusions of the mineral rutile. When these needles radiate in six directions from a central pointcreating a star like pattern, known as asterismthey’re especially prized by collectors. Rutile most commonly appears in rock crystal and smoky quartz, but it also shows up in other quartz varieties. Like its cousins amethyst and ametrine, rutilated quartz has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, giving it excellent durability and making it ideal for everyday wear.
