1.52ct Burmese Ruby & Diamond Pear Drop Earrings 9ct Yellow Gold
Ruby is the rich, red coloured variety of Corundum with a vitreous (glass-like) lustre. The beautiful colour comes from Chromium, as Corundum that occurs in any colour other than red is classified as a Sapphire!
Ruby is one of the highest valued coloured gemstones, with large Rubies commanding higher prices than equivalently sized Diamonds. Rubies over one carat are rare, with the price for these stones increasing greatly.
The most important sources for Ruby include Myanmar (Burma - Mogok, Mong Hsu regions), Thailand (Bo Rai in the Trat province), Sri Lanka and Tanzania (Songea region). Star Rubies are a rare variety of Ruby that exhibits asterism, a six-rayed star displayed over the surface of the stone when it is moved.
