FABULOUS FRAGRANCE

We're celebrating International Fragrance Day! Discover the enchanting history of perfumery. Dating back over 5,000 years there's a lot to explore and learn.

The Timeless Art of Fragrance

Perfumery appears in the histories of the world's oldest civilisations, with evidence of fragrances being blended in Ancient Egypt, China and the Ancient Indus Civilisation, which dates back to 3300 B.C.

The perfumers in these ancient civilisations used natural ingredients blended to create unique scents. They often made use of crushed seeds, herbs and spices such as bergamot, almond, conifer and myrtle. They also used the rich perfume of flowers, such as rose and jasmine. These scents are still used to create and inspire perfumes to this day.

Fragrance For You

Perfumers recommend placing your fragrance on pulse points - the wrists, neck and back of the knees - in order to give the scent an opportunity to disperse. If you don't wish to apply directly to your skin, you can also apply scent to your clothing or hair, or use one of the signature pieces from Lisa Hoffman.

"As unique as it is beautiful, Lisa Hoffman’s fragrance jewellery collection gives women the freedom to wear perfume without having scent touch their skin. Try mixing various scented beads within your charm to create a custom bouquet, or stack multiple bracelets to style a chic fragrance experience that’s uniquely yours." - Joan Sutton, VP of Product Development and Brand Spokesperson for LISA HOFFMAN BEAUTY

Fragrances for Your Home

Fragrances can be used to add another dimension to your space and positively impact your mood. This can be achieved through the use of candles and diffusers to create a soft and cosy hotel-like atmosphere or using a few drops of essential oil to stimulate your senses.

  • Lavender is often praised for its calming, soothing and relaxing properties. The aromatic fragrance can be helpful in relieving stress and calming the mind. It is also known to encourage a restful night's sleep.
  • The uplifting and energising scent of citrus oil can help boost physical and mental energy levels. The invigorating smell can help you feel refreshed and more focused to get through the day.
  • Eucalyptus oil has many helpful cleansing benefits.  It can be ideal for assisting with clearing congested sinuses and also helps to clear the mind of overloading thoughts.

What's the difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette?

The terms eau de toilette (EDT) and eau de parfum (EDP) are more than just fancy French words. Each is a clue into the intensity, price and longevity of a perfume.

The eau de parfum will be your choice if you want one or two spritz max. It has a higher concentration of oils, making it the stronger scent that will last all day with minimum top-ups. Therefore if you prefer a more subtle scent that you can build, an eau de toilete will be your favourite fragrance.

"I always recommend to enquire about the ingredients in a perfume and see if I like them. Then try to imagine the perfume including all these ingredients. If the perfume is for someone else, I recommend gathering as much information as possible as this will influence the choice of perfume. What is her/his favourite holiday destination, favourite drink, fabric, colour, print, etc. All this information reveals the character and personality of the person and this makes it easier to choose a perfume." - Dimitri Weber, CEO & Founder of GOLDFIELD & BANKS
