How To Care For Your Jewellery
To keep your gemstones and jewellery looking their best a few simple techniques should be followed:
Cleaning
- Your jewellery should be cleaned regularly to maintain its sparkle.
- The most effective and gentle way to clean your jewellery is to use warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or soft bristled toothbrush. Dry gently with a soft cloth.
- To clean behind a gemstone use a soft bristled toothbrush to gently scrub and then rinse with warm water.
- Be sure to gently wipe off excess makeup and skin oils after wearing your jewellery.
- All organic gemstones such as Pearl, Coral, Opal, or Amber should only be wiped clean with a soft cloth.
- Never use toothpaste to clean jewellery. The abrasives in toothpaste may damage gemstones.
Storage
- Always store your jewellery pieces separately from one another to avoid scratches from harder gemstones. If possible, store each piece in a separate box.
- Softer stones such as Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Turquoise, Amber, and Opal can easily be scratched by other jewellery.
- Store your gemstone jewellery away from direct sunlight.
Perfume
- Your jewellery should always be the last item you put on and the first to be removed.
- This will prevent any of your jewellery coming into contact with perfume or hairspray which can cause damage.
- Perfume and other beauty products should always be applied before wearing jewellery.
Swimming
- Wearing your jewellery while swimming should always be avoided as it can cause damage.
- Always remove jewellery before using any cleaning products.
